Frances Fay “Fran” (Striler) Gaines, 77, of Festus died Aug. 27, 2021, at her home. Mrs. Gaines enjoyed gardening, painting new projects in her home, going to the casino, playing slots, renovating houses, preparing holiday meals, and spending time with family. Born March 9, 1944, in Festus, she was the daughter of the late Valle and Dorothy (Polette) Striler.
She is survived by her husband: Don Gaines, whom she married in 1979 in Chicago, after meeting him at the Magic Carpet nightclub in Festus. She also is survived by a sister: Carol Shelley of St. Clair; a brother: Charles Striler of Perryville; four daughters: Ranay Boylan of Herculaneum, Tina Holloman of St. Louis, Carol Bay of Pevely, Dawn (James) Holloman-Kelly of Hillsboro; four stepchildren: Doug (Vicki) Gaines of Tucson, Ariz., Gregory Gaines of Wyoming, Kim (Andi) Muniz of Dallas, Texas, Reeni (Ian) Hampden of Little Elm, Texas; six grandchildren: Marty Newkirk, Miranda Walker, Taylor (Brandon) Ziegler, Austin Walker, Erin Boylan, Mitchell Hille; and many nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by a sister: Shirley Rush.
A memorial service was held Aug. 31 at Mahn Funeral Home in Festus. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, Ill., 60601. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Funeral Home Twin City Chapel.
