Eric Huff, 82, of House Springs died Feb. 23, 2021. Mr. Huff and his family moved to the U.S. in 1947 and settled in High Ridge. He attended High Ridge School and later Northwest High School. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and was assigned to a destroyer, the USS Cory. He visited many ports of call, including Belize and Naples, Italy. Following his time in the Navy, he worked as a butcher at Jansen’s IGA in Chesterfield and later went to St. Louis Community College at Meramec to study dentistry. After graduation, he started his own dental lab, making crowns and bridges for dentists. Following retirement, he bought 120 acres in Madison County and built a log cabin. He enjoyed hunting, particularly with a .45-caliber flintlock handmade and engraved by one of his mentors. Mr. Huff entered many mountain men contests with his flintlock and ax and won many of them. He enjoyed reading about Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone, as well as finding and collecting arrowheads. He kept a log of where he found each of his hundreds of arrowheads and numbered them all. He also excelled at painting and won many awards in art contests for his nature scenes and paintings of historical places. Born Feb. 7, 1939, in Brisbane, Australia, he was the son of the late William Charles Huff and Helen Huff.
He is survived by a son: Fredrik Huff; two grandchildren: Oden and Tristan Huff; two brothers: John and Billy Huff; several cousins in Australia; and many other family and friends.
Services will be private. Burial will be in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to the ALS Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary in Cedar Hill.
