Elmer F. Cooper, 92, formerly of Weiner, Ark., died Feb. 16, 2107, in Crystal City. Mr. Cooper, a World War II veteran of the U.S. military, owned and operated the OK Barbershop in Weiner until he retired to his cabinet shop. He was one of the organizers of the Weiner Volunteer Fire Department in the early 1960s and served as its chief for 21 years. Born Nov. 9, 1924, in Weiner, he was the son of the late Floyd and Ruth Williams Cooper. He was preceded in death by his wife: Viola “Blondie” Cooper.
He is survived by a daughter: Linda Jean (Larry) Tucker of De Soto; three grandsons: Cooper (Kathleen) Tucker of Festus, Matt (Julie) Tucker of St. Louis and Adam Tucker of Bonne Terre; three great-grandchildren: Madison Tucker, Mason Tucker and Wesley Tucker; and three sisters: Ina Easter, Dorothy Griffin and Branda Keller. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Norman Cooper and Tommy Cooper; and an infant sister: Willo Jean.
Funeral services were held Feb. 20 at Weiner Methodist Church, officiated by his nephews: Floyd Martin Cooper, Gerald Griffin and Larry Griffin. Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Weiner Fire Department or the Oak Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Gregg-Langford Bookout Funeral Home in Jonesboro, Ark., and Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto.
