Acord, Ellen

Ellen Maxine Acord, 79, of Festus died Dec. 5, 2021, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mrs. Acord was retired from the Jefferson County Auditor’s office and was a member of First Baptist Church in De Soto. Born Jan. 23, 1942, in Valles Mines, she was the daughter of the late David Turner Haverstick and Gladys (Robinson) Haverstick, and the stepdaughter of the late Elizabeth “Betty” Haverstick. She was preceded in death by her husband: James S. Acord.

She is survived by three children: Ellen (Mark) Akins of De Soto, Michele (Tim) Ahlers of Festus and Marleisa (Gabe) Amsden of Crystal City; two siblings: Vera (Gary) Adams of Lenexa, Kan., and David (Jeannie) Haverstick of Clemmons, N.C.; six grandchildren: James (Stephanie) Akins, Jordan Akins, Cody (Zoe) Dierkes, Colin Dierkes, Preston Amsden and Molly Amsden; and two great-grandchildren on the way.

She was preceded in death by a son-in-law: Dennis Dierkes; and three sisters: Mary Viola (Richard “Dick”) Fischer, Elsie (Ed) Winter and G. Barbara (Don) Beckham.

Visitation is scheduled from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., in De Soto. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 13, at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Brad Delaughter. Burial is in the Woodlawn Cemetery in De Soto. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 2000 Grace Way, De Soto, 63020. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
