Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Nell Giffin, 91, Steelville

Elizabeth “Betty” Nell Kimberlin Griffin, 91, of Steelville died July 12, 2016. Mrs. Griffin was a bookkeeper for the family’s plumbing business and worked at the Steelville Star, Golden Echoes and a resale shop. She was a member of the Meramec Garden Club, Eastern Star and Ozark Trail Blazers and attended the Church of Christ in Cuba. She also was a volunteer who sewed aprons for the local Masons, made treats for firefighters and ambulance workers. She was given an honorary grandmother award in 2012 by Boy Scout Troop 477. Born Dec. 3, 1924, in Poplar Bluff, she was the daughter of the late Phillip Grant Smith and Maud (Wilson) Smith.

She was preceded in death by two husbands: Dayle Kimberlin and Paul Griffin.

She is survived by a daughter: Gayle (Jerry) Overby of Festus; a sister: Dorothy Ruestman of Arkansas; two sisters-in-law: Margaret Smith of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Regina Kimberlin Farquer of St. Louis; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and many other relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by two sons: Schuyler “Scott” and Mickey D. Kimberin; three brothers: Rush, Ralph and Raymond Smith; and three sisters: Evelyn, Sybil and Bonnie.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 16, at Britton-Bennett Funeral Home, 110 Cedar St., Steelville, followed immediately by funeral services. Burial will be at Steelville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Steelville Ambulance District. Arrangements are under the direction of Britton-Bennett Funeral Home.
