Edith Louise “Lucy” Johnston, 86, of Hillsboro died Aug. 2, 2022, at her home. Born May 22, 1936, in Herculaneum, she was the daughter of the late Linnie B. (Reece) and Charles Oscar Coplin.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years: Charles H. “Charlie” Johnston of Hillsboro; two sons: Charles E. “Rusty” (Beth) Johnston of Hillsboro and Ronald James (Kim) Johnston of Hillsboro; four grandchildren: Ryan (Alisia) Johnston, Aaron, Molly Anna Marie and Josephine Johnston; and five great-grandchildren: Isaac, Grace G. and Charlie Mae Johnston, Kinleigh Gentles and Gracie Smith.
She was preceded in death by 11 siblings: William “Bill” (Shirley of Greenville) Coplin, Dennis (the late Lorraine) Coplin, Charles E. (the late Bernice) Coplin, Alberta (the late Bill) Crader, Anna Coplin, James Oliver Coplin, Eddie Coplin, Coeen (the late Clifford) Medley, Wilma Coplin, Madge (the late Kenneth) Klable and Danny Coplin.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W Main St., in Festus. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at Sandy Baptist Church, 9331 Sandy Church Road, in Hillsboro, officiated by her grandson, Ryan Johnston. Burial will be in Sandy Baptist Church Cemetery in Hillsboro. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
