Edgar Winford Garrett, 88, of St. Charles, formerly of House Springs, died Sept. 29, 2020, in St. Charles. Mr. Garrett was a longtime educator with the Northwest R-1 School District, serving as head baseball coach for 17 years and head basketball coach for eight years as well as the distict’s athletic director. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award for Extraordinary Services to Interscholastic Activities from the Missouri State High School Activities Association and was an inaugural selection to the athletic division of the Northwest Hall of Fame. He enjoyed playing golf, watching the Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals and spending time with his family. He was born Aug. 27, 1932, in Conway, Ark., he was the son of the late Earl James Garrett and Mary D. (Boardman) Garrett-Wilson.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years: Trudie (Land) Garrett; two daughters: Lydia (Lee) Newton of Cottleville and Jill (Sean) Kirksey of California, Mo.; eight grandchildren: Emily, Madelyn, Reilly and Samuel Newton and Kendell, Kyle, Caden and Cole Kirksey; one great-grandchild: Jackson Mitchell; along with numerous extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by five siblings: Harold, Dale, Allan, Roger and Morris Garrett.
Visitation is at 10 a.m. until a funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at First Baptist Church of House Springs, 4375 Gravois Road. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Cedar Hill. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of House Springs.
