Steinbach, Dorothy

Dorothy Amelia Carolina Steinbach, 99, of Jefferson City, formerly of Libertyville and Farmington, died Sept. 14, 2020, at Oak Tree Villa in Jefferson City. Mrs. Steinbach was a homemaker and helped her husband on their Libertyville farm for many years. She worked briefly at Liguori Publications and Farmington (now Parkland) Memorial Hospital. She was an avid gardener and canned a variety of fruits and vegetables. She was a good cook and enjoyed preparing holiday meals, surprise parties and other get-togethers. Some of her hobbies included fishing, sewing, quilting, crochet, playing card games like pinochle, spades or pitch. She bowled until well into her 80s and enjoyed writing to friends and family all over the United States.

Mrs. Steinbach was a strong Christian who was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Luke’s E&R Church in Imperial. She was a former member of the Libertyville United Methodist Church and a member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Farmington, where she enjoyed serving in the lay witness movement and the Walk to Emmaus program. She was a member of the Antonia VFW Post 9799 Auxiliary and the Rock Memorial American Legion Post 283 Auxiliary.  She was born Feb. 10, 1921, the daughter of the late Henry and Louise (Buechting) Hoffarth. She was preceded in death by her husband: Oswald “Ozzie” Steinbach, whom she married Aug. 20, 1939, in Antonia.

She is survived by a daughter: Bonnie Ricks of Jefferson City; a son-in-law: Tom Lawson of Farmington; two brothers: Richard Hoffarth and Ralph Hoffarth, both of Imperial; four grandchildren: Dennis Lawson (Lisa), Joy Lawson (Marques), Andrea Curtis (Troy) and Christian Trescott Ricks II (Beth); five great-grandchildren: Alexander Lawson, Elizabeth Young, Noah Bussey, Beau Curtis and Gwendolyn Ricks; a sister-in-law: Patricia Hopkins; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

She was preceded in death by a son: Glenn (the late Melba) Steinbach; a daughter: Diane Lawson; a son-in-law: Christian Trescott Ricks; a sister: Fern Keller; a sister-in-law: Marie Hoffarth; her parents-in-law: Edward and Caroline Steinbach; and a brother-in-law: Oliver (the late Virginia) Steinbach.

Visitation is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. until a funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at Memorial United Methodist Church in Farmington, officiated by the Rev. Ron Beaton.  Memorials may be made to the Libertyville United Methodist Cemetery Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
