Donald E. Hodges, 81, of Festus died Jan. 2, 2018, at his home. Mr. Hodges was a soldier, recruiter and teacher with the U.S. Army and a photographer at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. While in the Army, he was stationed worldwide and served with NATO and SHAPE (Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe). Born Aug. 11, 1936, in Bay Village, Ark., he was the son of the late Valca (nee Campbell) and Elton Hodges.

He was preceded in death by his wife: Karin (Beuscher) Hodges.

He is survived by two daughters: Jennifer (Greg) Wooldridge of Festus and Monica (Lotfi) Herzi of Los Gatos, Calif.; a brother: Glen Hodges of Festus; two brothers-in-law: Bill Matthews of Imperial and Jim Pinion of Illinois; five grandchildren: Mark (Lisa) Wooldridge, Jenny Steward, Ilian Herzi, Lazare Herzi and Leila Herzi; and four great-grandchildren: Jack and Ben Wooldridge and Jake and Anna Steward.

He was preceded in death by five sisters: Laurita (the late Delmar “Sonny”) McEntire, Annette (the late Shorty) Gillespie, Betty Matthews, Sue Firestine and Rhonda  Pinion; and three brothers: Walt (the late Geraldine) Hodges, Tom Hodges and Gary Hodges.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., Festus, officiated by Pastor Danny Loesch. Burial will be at the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks.  Memorials may be made to NextStep for Life or Hope Hospice. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Homes.
