David J. Michel, 44, of Arnold died March 4, 2020, in Arnold. Mr. Michel was a home contractor. He was an avid sportsman and a devoted fan of his sons’ sporting endeavors. A talented athlete himself, he was a standout baseball player at Cape Central High School, leading his team to a state championship in 1994 and earning All-State and All-Conference honors. After high school, he played on an American Legion team that won the state title and placed second in the regional tournament. He went on to play at Southeast Missouri State University for three years. Born Oct. 6, 1975, in Cape Girardeau, he was the son of Caryn Michel of Cape Girardeau and the late Ronald Michel.
He is survived by his wife: Stacey (Werner) Michel of Arnold; two sons: Jack and Sam Michel of Arnold; a brother: Jeff (Kristin) Michel; three sisters: Debbie Michel, Kathy (Ravi) Singh and Sarah (Matt) Schellingerhout; five nieces and nephews: Kaylee, Hilton, Jude, Josie, and Ronnie Kate; his parents-in-law: Dan and Debra Werner; a brother-in-law: Danny Werner; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 4- 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, at Kutis Funeral Home, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road, in south St. Louis County. Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Thursday, March 12, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 6020 Old Antonia Road, in Imperial, officiated by the Rev. Thomas Vordtriede. Memorials may be made to a fund established at Arsenal Credit Union to benefit Jack and Sam Michel. Arrangements are under the direction of Kutis Funeral Home.
