David Eugene Whitener, 66, Festus
David Eugene Whitener, 66, of Festus, formerly of Bryan, Texas, died Jan. 10, 2022. He was a 1973 Windsor High School graduate, and he graduated in 1977 from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, Ark. He played college football and was a member of the Phi Lambda Chi fraternity. He worked as a realtor for Century 21 in Texas before falling ill to colon cancer. He was an avid golfer and had four holes in one. Born Aug. 4, 1955, he was the son of the late Arthur Eugene and Mildred (Skaggs) Whitener.
He is survived by his wife: Debbie (Hunter) Whitener of Festus; one daughter: Halee (fiance Morgan) LaDart of Louisiana; one sister: Deena (Billy) Truka of Imperial; two stepchildren: Aubree (Mike) Birkenmeier of Festus and Bill (Kayelah) Oster of Festus; seven grandchildren: Brayden LaDart of Louisiana, Madeline, Avery, Lanny and Max Birkenmeier, and Jacob and Sophia Oster; and many other family members.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: Darrell and Doug Whitener.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 16) at the Kutis South County Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road, in St. Louis County. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, (Jan. 17) at the funeral home. The family asks attendees to wear golf attire. Burial will be in Old Mount Pisgah Cemetery in Fredericktown. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children. Arrangements are under the direction of Kutis Funeral Homes.
