David Dean Schlote, 84, of St. Louis died Feb. 18, 2022, at Laclede Groves Senior Facility in Webster Groves. Mr. Schlote was a heating and cooling technician and founded J.D. Heating and Cooling in Dittmer with his father-in-law, Jacob Boucher, and owned the Garage 30 restaurant and nightclub in Dittmer. He later was a salesman and in his semi-retirement was an older adult transportation driver. He was the Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 552 in Cedar Hill and held a patent for a solar heating system. In the U.S. Air Force, he was an aircraft navigator. He enjoyed jokes and enjoyed trains, especially steam locomotives. Born Sept. 2, 1937, he was the son of the late Ethelyn (Schlosser) and Elwood “Bud” Schlote.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years: Maureen (Hoff) Schlote.
He is survived by six children: Scott Schlote, Andy (Brenda) Schlote, Kevin (Valerie) Schlote, Kurt (Kristi) Schlote, Eric (Trish) Schlote and Kyle (Claudia) Kindler; two siblings: Kenneth (Betsy) Schlote of Omaha, Neb., and Kathy (Jim) Andersen of Honey Creek, Iowa; 22 grandchildren: Amanda (Phillip) Baker of High Ridge, Danielle (John) Adams of Webster Groves, Jillian Schlote of House Springs, Ben Schlote of Brooklyn, N.Y., Jacob, Andy (Evie), Sarah, Abby and Jack Schlote, all of St. Louis, Rachel (Dylan) Schopper of Fenton, Joey and Jason Schlote, both of Catawissa, Christopher (Maggie Hopkins) and Claire Schlote, both of Blue Springs, Alec, Sam, Nate and Eric “E” Schlote, all of Fairway, Kan., Nick, Noah, Nash and Nate Kindler, all of Overland Park, Kan.; and six great-grandchildren: Carter and Ayda Baker of High Ridge, Everett and Keira Adams of Webster Groves and Theo and Finn Schlote of Blue Springs.
A private memorial service will be at a later date.
