D. Jean O’Brien, 93, of Festus died March 30, 2014, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mrs. O’Brien was a homemaker and an assistant in the W.H. “Stu” O’Brien Law Firm. She was a Dame of the Knights Templar, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star 417 and a board member of the Jefferson County Heritage Society. Born April 1, 1920, in Newark, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Lillian (Barnes) and Walter Ross. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Howard Stewart O’Brien II.
She is survived by a daughter: Kathleen O’Brien of Festus; three grandchildren: Kevin (Kate) O’Brien of Salina, Shawn (Silvana) English of Affton and Erin (Stephen) Flehmer of Monett; four great-grandchildren: Shelby O’Brien, Despina Grabe, Skyler English and Brock Flehmer; and a daughter-in-law, Jeannie O’Brien of Salina, Kan. She was preceded in death by a son: W.H. “Stu” O’Brien III; and a sister: Margaret Ross.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, at Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 3, at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Kendall Brune. Burial is in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to the Hillsboro Food Pantry. Arrangements were under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
