Ayers, Christopher

Christopher L. Ayers, 52, of Barnhart died Oct. 10, 2019, in Barnhart. Mr. Ayers was a maintenance mechanic with Vi-Jon. An all-around “fixer,” he enjoyed working on cars and trucks and could repair just about any motor or machine made. He also rehabbed a number of homes. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed bow hunting, rifle hunting and fishing, especially with his father and his friends. He was born Nov. 20, 1966, in St. Louis, the son of Caroll Dean (Sutterfield) Ayers of Imperial and the late Dewey Lynn Ayers.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of six years: Tina (Barczewski) Ayers; two children: Tyler Ayers of Bonne Terre and Alexandria Ayers of St. Louis County; two stepchildren: Melissa (Tim) Goodwin and Crystal (Justin) Strate; one grandchild: Maddison Lea Drennen; four step-grandchildren: Kaden, Mason, Connor and Conner; a brother: Michael Lynn Watkins; two sisters: Angela D. Pierce and Melissa E.  Weick; his parents-in-law: Ron and Donna Barczewski; a sister-in-law: Jennifer Barczewski; and a number of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Orville and Glenna Sutterfield and Arthur and Annie (Taylor) Ayers; and several aunts and uncles, including Pam Smock.

A funeral service was held Oct. 15 at Kutis Funeral Home in south St. Louis County. Burial was in the Shepherd Hills Cemetery in Barnart. Memorials may be made to any lung cancer research charity. Arrangements were under the direction of Kutis Funeral Home.
