Charlie E. “Matt” Dillin, 71, of Festus died Sept. 1, 2017, at his home. Mr. Dillin was a retired accountant and tax specialist. He graduated from William McKinley High School in St. Louis, then was drafted into the U.S. Army and attended Officer Candidate School, earning the rank of captain. He served as a casualty assistance officer during the Vietnam War. He later graduated from Webster University. Born Nov. 9, 1945, in Nettleton, Ark., he was the son of the late Esta Virginia (Cleghorn) and Leo Eugene Dillin. He was preceded in death by his wife: Kathleen S. (Baese) Dillin.
He is survived by a son: Scott Dillin of Festus; a daughter: Christina M. Van Doren of Pevely; a brother: Junior (Lou) Dillin of Caulfield; two sisters: Ellen “Faye” Stahl of Mountain Home, Ark., and Elsie (Edward) Pinnon of West Plains; four grandchildren: Jerremy R. Dillin, Brendan S. Van Doren, Mykayla Y. Starks and Caitlyn S. Dillin; and two great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by a sister: LaWanda Atwater.
Funeral services were held Sept. 11 at Vinyard Hillcrest Funeral Home in Pevely. Burial with full military honors was in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be to the St. Louis VAMC Fisher House. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
