Charles Victor “Charlie” Vreeland, 94, of Hillsboro died July 9, 2017, in Crystal City. Mr. Vreeland was the Hillsboro city administrator for 65 years, the treasurer for the Hillsboro Special Road District and a former partner of the family-owned Vreeland’s Clover Farm and Store. He was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Hillsboro, as well as a former Hillsboro R-3 School District history teacher, basketball coach and school board member. He was a former board member of Eagle Bank and Trust for 34 years and a former Hillsboro Rotary Club member.
Born June 16, 1923, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Floyd and Elsie (Callewert) Vreeland.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years: Audrey (Mundwiller) Vreeland of Hillsboro; two daughters: Karen (Paul Morris) Eye of Florissant and Elizabeth (Dennis) Vreeland Russell of Crystal City; a son: Eric (Emily) Vreeland of Knoxville, Tenn.; three grandchildren: Benjamin (Amanda) Eye of Florissant, Cassandra Eye of Overland and Joshua (Scott Green) Eye of Alton, Ill.; and two great-granddaughters: Alyssa and Emma Eye.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Richard Vreeland.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, at Robert D. Brown Funeral Home, 103 Fourth St., in Hillsboro. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 12, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 703 Third St., in Hillsboro. Burial will be in Good Shepherd Catholic Cemetery in Hillsboro. Memorials may be made to the Fletcher House Foundation, the American Heart Association or the Hillsboro Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert D. Brown Funeral Home.
