Charles M. “Chuck” Boyer, 85, of De Soto died Sept. 4, 2017, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mr. Boyer delivered milk in the De Soto, Old Mines and Potosi communities for many years, working for People’s Dairy and then Prairie Farms Dairy until his retirement. He was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army, a longtime member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in De Soto and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1185. He was a Little League coach for many years, had many hobbies and enjoyed going to craft shows with his late wife. He was born Nov. 21, 1931, in old Mines, the son of the late Matthew E. and Effie M. (Bequette) Boyer. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years: Veronica (Courtaway) Boyer, whom he married Jan. 23, 1954, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

He is survived by three children: Vicki (Dave) McAnally of De Soto, Charles (Sherrie) Boyer of Washington, Ill., and Jeff Boyer of Fenton; three sisters: Freda Poultney of St. Louis, Wilma (Bobby) Parmely of Potosi and Marty Kohl of St. Louis; two brothers: James (Verna) Boyer of Hillsboro and Edward Boyer of Roy, Utah; a brother-in-law: Paul “Junior” (Barb Amsden) Courtaway of Festus; eight grandchildren: Matt (Jennifer) McAnally, Brad (Pamela) McAnally, Mandi (Matt Franken) McAnally, Kristen (Ben) Briney, Lindsey Boyer, Megan (Josh) Jackman, Drew Boyer and Brooke Boyer; 14 great-grandchildren: Haley, Colton, Madelyn, John, Braden, Kaylee, Caiden, Daylon, Scarlet, Austin, Adelynn, Wyatt, Barrett and Eloise; and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: George, Bobby and Arthur Boyer.

Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, at Mahn Funeral Home, 900 N. Main, in De Soto. Visitation is at 9 a.m. and a prayer service at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at the funeral home, followed by a procession to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. funeral Mass, officiated by Father Alex Anderson. Burial with military honors will follow at Calvary Cemetery in De Soto. Memorials may be made to St. Rose of Lima Church, 504 S. Third St., De Soto, 63020. Arrangements are under the direction of Richeson Funeral Home in Troy, Ill.
