Charles Calvin Long, 76, of De Soto died Jan. 3, 2017, at Hillcrest Nursing Center. Mr. Long was a machinist for Ameren and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force Reserve, where he served as an air craft mechanic.
He enjoyed gardening and raised 500 tomato plants and sold them from his home. He also enjoyed woodworking and working on cars.
Born June 24, 1940, in Edwardsville, Ill., he was the son of the late Francis and Bessie Ann (Crook) Long.
He is survived by his wife: Joyce (Harley) Long of De Soto; one son: Gary Long of O’Fallon; two daughters: Sherri (Rick) Nance of Cadet and Lori (Andy) Dohack of De Soto; two sisters: Ruby Busche of Waterloo, Ill., and Betty (Bill) Mokriakow of Waterloo, Ill.; and four grandchildren: Daniel Long, Faith Nance, Joshua Nance and Daphine Dohack.
He was preceded in death by one brother-in-law: Clyde Busche.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 5, at Mahn Funeral Home, 900 N. Main St., in De Soto.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Jan. 6, at Mahn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Peaceful Ridge Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Funeral Home.
