Catherine “Cathy” Johns, 62, of Arnold died Feb. 25, 2022, at her home. Mrs. Johns worked at Barnes-Jewish Hospital for 37 years, retiring as a charge nurse in the neuro intensive care unit. A 1978 graduate of Fox High School, she received a bachelor’s degree from St. Louis University, where she earned a softball scholarship, and received a nursing degree from Washington University. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter, and attending Fox football and St. Louis Cardinals games. Born Feb. 23, 1960, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of Jay (Impellizzeri) Salsman of Arnold and the late James Salsman Sr.
She is survived by a son: Ricky Johns of Arnold; a granddaughter: Gabriella Johns; five siblings: James (Ellen) Salsman Jr. of Arnold, Mary (Ed) Haar of Eureka, Dianne (Mark Watts) Salsman of Lake St. Louis, Joe (Karen) Salsman of Imperial and Mike (Kathleen) Salsman of Imperial; and numerous family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by a daughter: Theresa Johns.
Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 3, at St. David Catholic Church, 2334 Tenbrook Road, in Arnold. Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Arrangements are under the direction of Kutis Funeral Home in south St. Louis County.
