Willm, Carl

Carl Lee “Chuck” Willm, 93, of Festus died Aug. 18, 2019, at Mercy Hospital St. Louis in Creve Coeur. Mr. Willm was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army who was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for exemplary service for his heroism in multiple battles in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. He was a retired glassworker with the former PPG Crystal City plant and a member of Sacred Heart Church in Crystal City, a life member of VFW Post 3777 and a member of American Legion Post 253. Born Jan. 23, 1926, in Hillsboro, he was the son of the late Ethel Lee (Stephenson) and Chester C. Willm.

He is survived by his wife: Peggy (Graham) Keney Willm; a son: Carl “Tim” (Midge) Willm of Festus; three daughters: Sue (Don) Martin of Festus, Christy (Randy) Lofton of Santa Clara, Calif., and Sally (Joe) Meyer of St. Louis; four grandchildren: Megan Willm, Shaun (Miranda) Martin, Corey Martin and Alex Meyer; three great-grandchildren: Shandon Riney, Tate Riney and Natalie Martin; and several nieces.

He was preceded in death by his first wife: Allene Marie Herzog; two sisters: Monzella (the late Jerome) Reeder and Anna “Marie” (the late George) Patrick; and a brother: Glen (the late Wanda) Willm.

Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. Visitation resumes at 1:30 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, at the funeral home, officiated by Deacon Jerry Stoverink. Burial with full military honors is in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Crystal City. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
