Hintermeister, Burton

Burton Eugene Hintermeister, 87, of De Soto died Dec. 16, 2021, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mr. Hintermeister was a U.S. Army veteran and had worked as a machine operator for Catepillar Inc. He was an active member of Journey Church and loved square dancing, which is how he met his wife. He was an avid political "Letter to the Editor" writer, a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and enjoyed woodworking, doing paint-by-numbers and reading. He was born Feb. 28, 1934, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of the late Elmer Hintermeister.

He is survived by his wife: Carol Hintermeister of De Soto; three sons: Steve (Roxanne) Hintermeister of Muscatine, Iowa, Scott (Misty) Hintermeister of Lexington, Ky., and Herbert Charlan of Madison, Wis.; a daughter: Tammi Dupuis of Hillsboro; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a son: David Hintermeister; a son-in-law: Jim Dupuis; and two brothers: Fred and Clifford Hintermeister.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. A memorial service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Journey Church, 820 N. Main St., in De Soto, officiated by Pastor Rick Pirtel. Memorials may be made to Journey Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Funeral Home in De Soto.
