Brian David “Sparky” Rudy, 56, of Hillsboro died Dec. 14 at his home. Mr. Rudy graduated from the Hillsboro R-3 School District and from Jefferson College’s fire science and emergency medical technician programs. He started as a volunteer firefighter with the Hillsboro Fire Protection District, eventually becoming a paid captain and then fire marshal for the district. He was employed by Valle Ambulance and by Abbott Ambulance. He later left Hillsboro fire and to join the St. Louis City Fire Department where he worked out of Engine Houses No. 2 and 11. He retired from the fire service in 2011 but was elected to the Goldman Fire Protection District and served until his death. He was a member of International Association of Fire Fighters Local 73. He enjoyed Pink Floyd El Monstero and loved storytelling and spending time with his family. Born Aug. 16, 1964, in St. Louis, he was the son of Chet and Pat (Roberts) Pounds of Farmington.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife: Kimberly (Easter) Rudy of Hillsboro; three sons: Brandon Rudy of St. Louis, Keith (Kristy) Bourbon of Hillsboro and Dustin Sauter of Maryland Heights; two daughters: Tiffany (John) King of St. Louis and Jordan Rudy of Hillsboro; a brother: Donnie (Pam) Pounds of Ware; his grandmother: Lavern Huening of St. Louis; and five grandchildren: Aaron, Barry, Connor, Stephanie and Honnah.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Diane and Debra Pounds; and three grandparents: Carl Huening, Lewis Roberts and Pauline Roberts.
Visitation is at 3 p.m. until a funeral service at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, at the Hillsboro Civic Center, 10349 Hwy 21, in Hillsboro.
