Dostal, Robert

Bob E. “Big D” Dostal, 70, of Fenton died March 15, 2020. Mr. Dostal was a deputy with the Jefferson County Sherriff’s Department and had a 25-year (plus retirement) career as a machinist. He was happiest in his garage, and enjoyed his life with either a tool or a book in hand. He was proud of his tomatoes, made the best barbecue, and jumped at the chance to take charge of holiday meals. He enjoyed model railroading, playing pool, having a bratwurst at the Cardinals game. He was an excellent shot, a deer hunter, a fantastic gift-giver, a thinker, a wordsmith, a perfectionist, a pot-stirrer, a fixer. More than anything, he loved riding “Whitey,” his 1976 Harley Davidson Super Glide motorcycle. Born Nov. 24, 1949, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Robert and Norma (Awalt) Dostal.

He is survived by his wife of almost 40 years: Jackie Ann (Block) Dostal; five children: Bryan (the late Rachel) Dostal, Dale (Mandy) Dostal, Bradley (Holly) Dostal, Stephanie (Will) Wanstreet and Stacey Dostal; two grandchildren: Jaxson and Annie; and numerous siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Jefferson County Library Foundation, 5678 State Road PP, High Ridge, 63049; or to the Missouri Baptist Healthcare Foundation, c/o Therapy Services, 3015 North Ballas Road, St. Louis, 63131. Arrangements were under the direction of Fieser Funeral Home in Fenton.
