Billy Joseph Keeney Sr., 80, of De Soto died March 16, 2018, at his home. Mr. Keeney was a retired a control operator at Ameren UE and a Korean War-era veteran of the U.S. Marines. He enjoyed road trips, coaching soccer and baseball, playing softball, camping, hiking, bowling, baseball and golf. His favorite thing to do was spend time with his family. Born Sept. 14, 1937, in East St. Louis, Ill., he was the son of the late Myrtle (Henson) and Hugh Keeney. He was preceded in death by his wife: Frankie (Underwood) Keeney.
He is survived by two sons: Robert (Suzanne) Keeney of Millstadt, Ill., and Donny (Sandy) Keeney of Festus; five daughters: Debbie (James) Bell of Millstadt, Cathy (Harry Williams) Keeney of Rolla, Jackie (Doug) Fielder of Wentzville, Patty Keeney of De Soto and Jennifer Keeney of De Soto; a daughter-in-law: Elizabeth Price of Festus; three brothers: Paul (Judy) Keeney of Murphysboro, Ill.; James Keeney of De Soto and Chuck (Joan) Keeney of Belleville, Ill.; 18 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons: Billy Keeney Jr. and Jerry Keeney; and a brother: Robert Keeney.
Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, at Mahn Funeral Home, 900 North Main St., in De Soto. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 504 S. Third St., in De Soto, officiated by Father Alexander Anderson. Burial is in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Funeral Home.
