Bill C. “Steamboat” Crader, 83, of Festus died April 7, 2016, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mr. Crader was a retired supervisor with BFI Waste Company. He was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of American Legion Post 253 and VFW Post 3777. Born Nov. 20, 1932, in Oran, he was the son of the late Macey Spicer and Carroll Matthews. He was preceded in death by his wife: Sandra Sue (Haverstick) Crader.
He is survived by two daughters: Cindy Sue (Roger Fowler) Johnson of Festus and Crystal Dawn (Johnny) Mills of Hillsboro; a son: Bill Darin (Kathy) Crader of Festus; eight grandchildren: Jessica (Brian) VonTalge, Cody (Sarah) Mills, Emma (Scott) VonTalge, Jeremy (Ashley) Crader, Melissa Crader, Billy (Ali) Crader, James Mills and Kurtis Mills; and 16 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held April 11 at Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus, officiated by the Rev. David Wells. Burial with full military honors was in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association. Arrangements were under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
