Betty Jean Hartzell, 87, of Potosi died Aug. 28, 2021, at Scenic Nursing Home in Herculaneum. Ms. Hartzell worked as a hairdresser, a bus driver and a certified nurse’s aide. She enjoyed fishing, playing computer games, playing cards, going for drives and spending time with friends and family. Born on April 22, 1934, in Cadet, she was the daughter of the late Bruce and Hattie (Boyer) Hartzell.
She is survived by two sons: Bruce (Kelly) Rekate of Pevely and James Rekate of Potosi; a daughter: Wilma Jean Rekate of Potosi; a brother: Roy (Sharon) Hartzell of Aurora, Ill.; two sisters: Juanita Ormsby of Wisconsin and Sharon (Ronald) Smith of Arnold; three grandchildren: Bruce Rekate, Cathleen Rekate and Dakota Stroup; and three great-grandchildren: Bruce Evan Rekate, Evelyn Rekate, and Eleanor Rekate.
She was preceded in death by a daughter: Cathleen Marie Rekate; two sisters: Patricia Sue Hartzell and Alberta Hartzell; and two brothers-in-law: Verle and James.
Funeral services and burial were private. Arrangements were under the direction of Mahn Twin City Chapel in Festus.
