Minehart, Bessie

Bessie Mae Minehart, 89, of Hillsboro, formerly of Granite City, Ill., died Feb. 1, 2021, at her son’s home in Hillsboro. Mrs. Minehart was a homemaker and enjoyed caring for her family.  She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Granite City and enjoyed reading and following St. Louis Cardinals baseball. She was born Nov. 4, 1932, in Fisk, the daughter of the late Howard William and Mildred I. (Gillihan) Sanderson. She was preceded in death by her husband: Leslie Gale Minehart.

She is survived by a son: Richard (Mary) Minehart of Hillsboro; two sisters: Betty McBroom of Barnhart and Wanda Norden of Broseley; a brother: Glenn (Melba) Sanderson of Farmington, Ky.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a brother: Don Sanderson.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. until a funeral service at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at Mahn Funeral Home, 900 N. Main St., in De Soto, officiated by Chaplain Mark McMullin. Private burial will take place in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospice or to a local food pantry. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Funeral Home.
