August “Gus” Winckel, 88, of De Soto died Aug. 1, 2020, at his home. Mr. Winckel was a retired inspector for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft and a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and VFW Post 1831. He was born Feb. 23, 1932, in St. Louis, the son of the late Carl and Bernice (Evans) Hoelzel. He was preceded in death by his wife: Teresa (Bayer) Winckel.
He is survived by two sons: Jeff Winckel of De Soto and Gary (Carolyn) Winckel of Dothan, Ala.; two sisters: Barbara Hoelzel and Mary Courtois, both of De Soto; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter: Tina Tissot; and a brother: Robert “Bob” Winckel.
Visitation is scheduled from 9-10:40 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto. Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, officiated by Father Alexander Anderson. Burial is in the Calvary Cemetery in De Soto. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
