Arnold E. Sullivan, 93, of Park Hills died April 28, 2021, in Park Hills. Mr. Sullivan served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne from 1946-1947 and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal. He took great pride in being a VFW life member and was Commander of Post 2593 in Arnold in 1978-1979, making a lifetime commitment to serving his fellow members and veterans. He was born Dec. 16, 1927, in Greenville, the son of the late Charles A. and Horice (White) Sullivan. He was preceded in death by his second wife: Marlene V. Manguso, to whom he was married from 1975 until her death in 2003.
He is survived by his first wife: Helen V. Welsh, to whom he was married from 1949 to 1968; two daughters: Donna K. (Nick Thomson) Sullivan-Thomson and Debra L. (Dave Graff) Sullivan-Graff; two stepdaughters: Pamela (Mark) Manguso Weber and Connie (Rick) Manguso Perkins; a stepson: Bart (Kelly) Manguso; a sister: Patricia (Sullivan) Twidwell; two grandsons: Michael D. Messmer and Scott P. Messmer; five step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by six siblings: William Albert Sullivan, Winfred “Jake” Sullivan, Daniel Clinton Sullivan, Dorse “Mick” Sullivan, Hattie Sullivan and Nancy (Sullivan) Jones.
Visitation is scheduled from 11 a.m. until a funeral service at 2 p.m. Friday, May 7, at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6776 Vo-Tech Road, in Bonne Terre. Burial will follow in St. Francois Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to any local no-kill animal shelter. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary.
