Nance, Alvin

Alvin Nance, 90, of De Soto died Dec. 28, 2016, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mr. Nance was a supervisor for Consolidated Freightway. He also was a charter member of Elks O’Fallon, and a member of Masonic Lodge 407, Scottish Rite Valley of St. Louis and Moolah Shriners International. He also served in the U.S. Army. Born Sept. 22, 1926, in Ancel, he was the son of the late Jess and Pearl (Basey) Nance.

He is survived by his wife: Janet (French) Nance of De Soto; two sons: Thomas (Wendy) Harris of Festus and Gerald (Laura) Harris of De Soto; five daughters: Rebecca Angeli of Springfield, Lisa Nance of Pleasant Hope, Kimberly (Rick) McCallister of Pleasant Hope, Terri Harris of De Soto and Deborah Riggs of Willard; one brother: Jimmy (Janet) Nance of Ellington; 12 grandchildren: Tia McCallister, Ashley Stratton, Allison Schmidt, Andrew Angeli, Justin Harris, Emma Harris, Tyler Brier, Dylan Brier, Autumn Harris, Conner Harris, Dustin Riggs and Claudia Kaniowski; and two great-grandchildren: Judah Easter and Perry Stratton.

He was preceded in death by two brothers: Pat Nance and Lloyd Nance and five sisters: Virginia Cook, Gladys Seabaugh, Betty Manley, Ruth DesLauries and Cleo Nance.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Dec. 30, at Mahn Funeral Home, 900 N. Main St., De Soto. Funeral services will follow immediately at 12 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children. Arrangements are under the direction of Mahn Funeral Home.
