Alva L. Shell, 97, of Arnold died July 20, 2018, at St. Andrews at Francis Place in Eureka. Mr. Shell was retired from Crown Zellerbach as a forklift driver. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1944-1946 with the 5th Infantry on the front lines. He was chosen to take the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in September 2017 in honor of his service. Born Jan. 7, 1921, in Lutesville, he was the son of the late Arthur and Willie Francis Shell.
He is survived by a grandson: Alex Shell of St. Charles; five great-nieces: Vicki Blowers of Arnold, Kathy Wingbermuehle of Arnold, Sherri Hangsleben of Edwardsville, Ill., Stephanie Shell of Marble Hill and Laura Shell Taber of Cape Girardeau; four great-nephews: Michael Lewis of Arkansas, BJ Shell of Florida, Tony Shell of St. Charles and Ken Shell of St. Charles; several great-great-nieces and nephews; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by a son: Aldon Shell; four brothers: Leeman Shell, Lester Shell, Truman Shell and Virgil Shell; two sisters: Eleanor Shell and Gladys Elledge; and a special friend: Cathy Kelso.
Visitation is at 10 a.m. and a funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at Hurricane Fork General Baptist Church in Marble Hill, Missouri, officiated by the Rev. David Jordan. Burial is in the Hurricane Fork Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill.
