accident patrol patch

A pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle in foggy conditions Monday night (Jan. 2) in Hillsboro remained in critical condition today (Jan. 3), Hillsboro Police Chief Charles Bennett said.

He said Kristen Clark, 28, of the Hillsboro area was struck between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. while she was walking along the northbound ramp to Hwy. 21. He said Clark had been on foot from the Circle K convenience store, 10201 Business 21, and walked along Hwy. A before she reached the Hwy. 21 ramp.

Bennett said considering the conditions, the driver, who had his two children in his vehicle, is not being blamed and was not ticketed. Bennett said he had no additional information about the driver or the vehicle.

The driver reported the incident and it remains under investigation, Bennett said.

“We don’t know if she stepped in front of the car – it was foggy,” he said. “We found no identification on her. We know she had been at Circle K arguing with someone on the phone.”

He said the Police Department was not able to determine the woman’s identity until this morning.

“Valle Ambulance took her to St. Anthony’s (Medical Center), then she was transferred to Barnes-Jewish Hospital,” Bennett said. “She went through emergency surgery and is still in critical condition.”
