The Windsor C-1 Board of Education voted 6-0 Nov. 15 to allow Superintendent Jason King to start negotiations on a multimillion-dollar project for improvements at Windsor Intermediate Center and Windsor High School.
The district received five bids for the projects, and accepted the lowest, from Brockmiller Construction of Farmington at $11,970,000.
That acceptance only started the process, King explained.
“I was given permission to negotiate with Brockmiller,” he said after the meeting. “The bids were for renovations and an addition at the Intermediate Center and work at Windsor High School. We’re looking at a new gymnasium at Windsor Intermediate and renovated athletic facilities for the high school.
“We’re also looking at doing renovations on FCS – family and consumer life sciences – facilities at the high school. We’re also looking at doing renovations on the kitchen at the high school.”
The project will be paid for with proceeds from a $20 million bond issue for capital improvements approved by voters in April 2022.
King said his negotiations with Brockmiller will iron out details of the work the company will do.
Windsor Intermediate Center is located at 6208 Hwy. 61-67 and Windsor High School sits a short distance away at 949 Windsor Harbor Road, both in Imperial.
Assistant Superintendent Mike Rickermann said the project would be considered the big-ticket item to be financed by the $20 million bond issue.
“Some smaller projects have taken place,” Rickermann said. “This covers the biggest project from the bond issue. There are other potential projects that we may end up doing (through the bond issue), depending on what is left after this.”
Board member Chris Casey did not attend the meeting.
It was the first meeting for new board member John DeWalle. He was sworn in that night to replace Dan Shaul, who resigned because he moved out of the district.
