The Windsor C-1 Board of Education has named a new superintendent – Jason King, the current superintendent for the Bismarck R-5 School District in St. Francois County. He will succeed Joel Holland, who is retiring at the end of the school year.

The board voted 7-0 during a special meeting Monday night (Jan. 24) to hire King. He was selected from among 17 applicants, said Holland, who has been the Windsor superintendent for 13 years.

King impressed board members during the interview process, Holland said.

“All of the applicants were very, very qualified,” he said. “I think what brought Jason to the top of the class was he made a good connection with the board. He made a good impression.”

King, 42, has been the superintendent at Bismarck for the last five years. During his 20-year career in education, he worked as an English and social studies teacher for seven years and spent eight years as a building-level administrator.

King, who will start his job at Windsor on July 1, said he’s looking forward to heading up the district.

“You don’t have to ask around very much to hear good things about Windsor,” King said today (Jan. 28). “You hear good things not only academically, but also about the teachers and administrators and the support staff.”

King will earn a $147,400 salary as superintendent at Windsor. He currently makes $125,000 a year as the Bismarck superintendent. Holland’s current salary is $211,100.

“Jason King comes highly recommended: we did a thorough research of him and the one thing that was a constant, which coincided with my impression in visiting with him, was the high quality of individual that he is,” said Tim McCraw, the board president. “Jason is very genuine, down to earth and has the qualities that I believe our Windsor C-1 staff will relate to. He is definitely someone that our teachers and administrators can work effectively and cooperatively with.”

Board member Scott Brothers agreed.

“I was extremely impressed with how Jason handled himself during the interview process,” Brothers said. “He was extremely calm, poised and has a very genuine demeanor; it is also very evident that he is a very caring and sincere person.”

King is working to finish his doctorate of education degree from William Woods University. He has an educational specialist degree and a master’s degree in education from William Woods University. He has a bachelor’s degree from Southeast Missouri State University.

King and his wife, Janna, live in Bismarck and have two daughters.

“At some point, we will be looking to move up that way,” he said. “To start, I’ll commute.”
