Now that that the noise from fireworks has died down – probably – it’s time to enjoy other outside activities.
On Saturday (July 8), Jefferson County will be the site of a pair of outdoor concerts and two outdoor movies – or at least, one is almost outdoors.
The Friends of the Festus Parks will hold a country music concert beginning at 6 p.m. at West City Park, 2220 Sunshine Drive. Admission is free, as is parking.
The trio Murphy 500 will take the stage from 6-8 p.m., followed by headliner Douglas Warren from 8:30-10:30 p.m.
A photo booth will be offered and food and drinks sold at the site. Coolers will not be allowed.
A few miles away in Crystal City, Al Sherman and Friends will perform outdoors in the picturesque grounds of Grace Presbyterian Church, 105 Bailey Road at Mississippi Avenue. Admission to the concert also is free, and it begins at 7 p.m. Those attending are advised to bring bring lawn chairs or blankets.
For information on this concert, call the church at 636-937-3019.
If music isn’t your thing, you might want to consider taking in a movie.
The Herculaneum Park Board continues its successful Movies in the Park series on Saturday by showing “Captain America: Civil War” on an inflatable screen at Herculaneum City Park, 776 Joachim Ave. The movie will begin at dusk. Those attending might want to bring blankets or chairs and insect repellent also is advised.
If you’d rather have a roof over your head, the Saline Valley Fire Protection District will open the doors of its House No. 1, 1771 Springdale Blvd. in the Fenton area, to show the free family movie, “The Secret Life of Pets.” Activities begin at 6 p.m., with the movie starting at 7 p.m.
Again, don't leave the house without bringing lawn chairs or blankets.
