The 2018 Twin City Area Ministerial Alliance cross processional along Main Street and Bailey Road.

The Twin City Area Ministerial Alliance’s 21st annual Good Friday cross processional will be held along Main Street and Bailey Road beginning at 6 p.m. Friday (April 19), a change from the usual noon start time.

“We’re testing (the start time) to see if we get larger participation,” said the Rev. Martinous Walls, spokesman for the Ministerial Alliance and recently retired pastor of Burian AME Church in Herculaneum.

The processional will begin at Grace Presbyterian, 105 Bailey Road, in Crystal City, and end at First United Methodist Church, 113 Grand Ave., in Festus.

“We’ll come out of (Grace Presbyterian) and will light the Christ candle at a bonfire,” he said. “The processional takes about 30 minutes. We stop along the way for scripture readings.”

After the processional, a service will be held at 7 p.m. at First United Methodist, with seven pastors from the alliance participating.

“The service will be ‘Seven Last Words,’ based on the seven last words spoken by Christ on the cross,” Walls said.

The theme for the processional is “Traveling Companions: Journey to the Water.”
