The Missouri Department of Conservation announced Wednesday, Nov. 20, it has closed its Truman Access boat ramp seven miles south of Crystal City for repairs after recent flooding damaged the ramp.
Recent heavy rains caused significant erosion damage to the boat ramp at the Mississippi River, said department spokesman Dan Zarlenga.
“We have crews out there to evaluate the damages and estimate how long it will be closed for repairs,” Zarlenga said.
He said the Truman Access parking lot will remain open to those seeking access to the adjoining U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Harlow Island, he said.
Zarlenga said he does not know how often people use the Truman Access boat ramp, but added it is a place to fish.
“(The Truman Access area) is used for fishing and by boat owners,” he said. “It’s also used as a place to park to go to Harlow Island.”
The Truman Access closure comes about a week after the department closed its boat ramp at Flamm City Park in Arnold, also due to damages caused by recent rainfall.
Zarlenga said the department is busy assessing its property around the state after the rains.
“I know multiple sites and ramps were impacted,” he said. “I don’t know how many had to be closed.”
Zarlenga said that for updated information on when the Truman Access boat ramp will be reopened, go to mdc.mo.gov, click on “Discover Nature” and continue to “Places to Go,” then type in Truman Access.
