Proud grandparents still have until 5 p.m. Friday, March 3, to enter the annual “Show Off Your Grandkids” photography contest, sponsored by Grand Times, Leader Publications’ magazine for seniors.
There also is still time for interested vendors to snag a spot at the Festus Senior Expo, which will run from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday, March 22, at the Sacred Heart Parish Annex Building in Crystal City, 555 Bailey Road.
In addition to vendors, the event will feature guest speakers, live music and free bingo, as well as free coffee and doughnuts.
The photo contest is open to Jefferson County and Eureka grandparents age 50 and older. Deadline for entries is 5 p.m. Friday, March 3.
First prize is $100; second prize is $75; and third prize will be $50.
The photo must have been taken by the grandparent who submits the entry. Studio shots are not eligible.
Photos will be judged on creativity, composition, charm and technical aspects, such as crop, focus and lighting.
The quality of the photograph will determine the winners; this is not a beauty contest for children.
Winning photos will be published in the next edition of Grand Times, which will be included in the March 16 Leader.
To be eligible for publication, all entries must include the following information:
■ Photographer’s name, address and phone number. We can’t accept entries without this information.
■ The first and last names of children in the photo and how they are related to you.
■ When and where the photo was taken.
■ A brief explanation of why the photograph is special to you.
Send entries to: Show Off Your Grandkids, Leader Publications, P.O. Box 159, Festus, 63028; or email to news@leaderpublications.biz. Photos may also be dropped off at the Leader office at 503 N. Second St., in Festus.
Photos will be returned by mail if a self-addressed stamped envelope is included.
Photos that are not published in the Leader will be posted to the paper’s website at myleaderpaper.com.
