Jefferson County has seen three more COVID-19-related deaths. The deaths were reported during the week of Feb. 11, bringing the total number of COVID deaths in the county to 34 this respiratory season, which began Oct. 1 and runs through mid-May, the Jefferson County Health Department reported.
Only one flu-related death has been reported in Jefferson County this respiratory season. That death was reported the week of Jan. 7, the department report.
From Oct. 1 to Feb. 17, 4,963 COVID cases were reported. During the same period, 1,423 flu cases were reported, with 872 Type A cases and 551 Type B cases, according to the Health Department.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone 6 months and older get the updated COVID-19 vaccine to protect against the potentially serious outcomes of the illness.
In addition, the CDC recommends a flu shot each season for anyone 6 months and older.
