Ten teams took part in the second annual Arnold Days Trivia Night, held Thursday at the Arnold Recreation Center. That was twice the number of teams that turned out at last year’s trivia contest, which is organized by Leader Publications.
About 80 players participated.
“We were happy with the turnout. It grew, so that was exciting,” Leader assistant publisher Peggy Scott said. “It seemed like folks enjoyed it. There was spirited competition, but people had fun.
“We look forward to it being a regular part of Arnold Days and are already planning the third annual Arnold Days Trivia Night.”
The first-place team, which won $240 in cash, included Earl Langhorst, LouAnn Langhorst, Sumner Hunnewell, Kathy Mize, Tony Ponzar, Laura Suter and Libby Schueddig.
Second place and $160 went to the team that included Bill Moritz, Deborah Moritz, John Brazeal, Yvonne Brazeal, John Rachels, Teena Rachels, Barbara Callahan and Beverly Kee.
The third-place team included two trivia first-timers, Lisa Burke and Kathy Burch.
“We saw it in the Leader, and we decided it sounded like fun,” the woman said.
The two friends showed up at the event together and were welcomed by a less-than-full table to form an impromptu team that snagged the third-place $80 prize. Other members from the third-place team included Tegan Bouchard, Jeff Bradshaw, Kristin Noble, Rob Scott and Laura Scott.
Trivia categories ranged from sports to Disney to pop culture, as well as a category all about local Arnold trivia. Door prizes were awarded, including gift cards for merchandise and gift certificates to local restaurants.
Arnold Days festivities will resume this evening and run through Saturday night, with most activities at Arnold City Park on Bradley Beach Road off Jeffco Boulevard near the Meramec River.
