The Terrazza Grill in Arnold has closed, and a Syberg’s restaurant and bar is slated to open there this summer.
“We’re hoping for June,” Kirk Syberg said.
He and his brothers, Rick and Brett Syberg, will own the new Syberg’s location in the Arnold Crossroads development at Hwy. 141 and Jeffco Boulevard.
They are part of the Syberg family that owns and operates five Syberg’s restaurants and bars in the St. Louis area, along with the Helen Fitzgerald’s restaurant and bar in St. Louis County.
“We’re very excited to finally be coming to Arnold,” Kirk said. “We’ve been looking (for a location) for a long time.”
Kirk said he and his siblings grew up in south St. Louis County, and his sister, Fawn Linquist, moved to Arnold years ago and her children attended Fox district schools.
“We’re very familiar with the area,” he said. “Arnold is going to be a great area; they’re the people we grew up with. A lot of people from South County moved out that way.”
Kirk said he believes the Arnold Syberg’s will draw a lot of people who live in south St. Louis County to the area.
Kirk said the Sybergs are taking over the lease for the former Terrazza Grill building in Arnold, which the Drury family owns.
He said the Sybergs also are familiar with the Drury family because the Syberg’s restaurant on Market Street in St. Louis adjoins a Pear Tree Inn owned by the Drury family.
Kirk said the Sybergs will make some changes inside the Arnold building.
“We will move the bar, and we won’t need a banquet room,” he said. “There will be lots of TVs.”
Kirk said the restaurant will have about 100 employees.
“We will be hiring,” he said.
In addition, the Sybergs will bring some people from their other restaurants to the Arnold location, including Kirk’s son, Conner Syberg, who currently works at Helen Fitzgerald’s.
“He will be one of the managers,” Kirk said.
Terrazza Grill
Terrazza Grill by Lombardo’s opened in Arnold in 2010, and the last day the restaurant was open for business was March 29.
Tony Lombardo, one of the owners, said it was difficult to oversee the Arnold restaurant because he and his family live in St. Louis and operate four other restaurants, all of those in St. Louis.
“It was getting a little tough coming from downtown,” he said “And, I have three little kids; they’re 7, 10 and 13. So, keeping up with them and the four other restaurants, it was getting a little inconsistent at the Arnold location. It was not up to par with our others, not as consistent as I wanted it to be.”
Tony and his brother, Mike Lombardo, owned the Terrazza Grill. They are part of the Lombardo family, which also operates Lombardo’s Restaurant, Lombardo’s Trattoria, Carmine’s Steak House and Angelo’s Taverna, all in St. Louis.
“Three of the four are all within a mile of each other,” Tony said.
Terrazza Grill had about 35 employees, and they were offered jobs at other Lombardo family restaurants, he said.
“About 15 came to our other locations,” he said.
Tony said he was sorry things didn’t work out at the Arnold location, but closing the restaurant was “a little bit of a relief.”
He also said he believes a Syberg’s will work well at the Arnold Crossroads location.
“I think they fit the area absolutely perfectly, more so than what we were offering there,” Tony said.
Kirk Syberg agreed.
“We’re glad this worked out,” he said.
