downed tree

Crews worked today (June 15) to remove a tree that fell in Jokerst Park in Festus following storms the night before.

A storm that traveled through Jefferson County Thursday evening (June 14) left thousands of customers without power at the peak of the outages, an Ameren Missouri spokesman said.

Brad Brown of Ameren Missouri said about 500 customers remained without power this morning (June 15), but many of them should have their power restored by noon and all are expected to have their power by 3 p.m.

“The (outages) started when the storm hit around 5 to 6 p.m.,” Brown said. “The peak of the outages was 3,700 about 8 p.m. About 3,200 had their power back on by 1 a.m.”

There were reports about trees knocked down across the area, but as of this morning, the Jefferson County Office of Emergency Management had received only one report of significant damage, said Jina Akins, the department’s deputy director.

“We have a report of a tree fallen on a mobile home in House Springs,” she said. “There was no one home. There were no injuries. The tree put a hole in the roof.”

Akins said the storm caused a number of temporary road closures, but she knew of no extended road closures.
