Most of Jefferson County fared well through the storms early this morning (March 7), but there was damage to a few small areas in the Goldman, Hillsboro and Dittmer areas, authorities report.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, Jefferson County Director of Emergency Management Warren Robinson said.
There was a little bit of damage in addition to the normal trees and power lines that came down,” he said.
In the Goldman area on Wohlbold Road, four structures were damaged. Two had trees fall on them and two had minor damage, including a mobile home that was lifted several feet off its foundation during the storm, Robinson said.
There also was damage to three homes on Reynold’s Creek Road in the Hillsboro area when trees fell on them.
“Two had minor damage. One was reported as major damage,” Robinson said.
Cedar Hill Fire Chief Terry Soer said firefighters found wires and trees down and some damage to structures along Ridge Road in Dittmer.
At one point following the storm, 411 people were without power in Jefferson County, and there were still 230 people without power mid-morning today, according to Ameren, Robinson said.
He said a team from the National Weather Service will come to Jefferson County to assess the damage.
“They will look at the damage and compare it to what they predicted and decide whether the damage was caused by a weak tornado or straight line winds,” Robinson said.
“We are still gathering information and investigating,” he said this morning. “It looks like we had a couple small pockets of damage and nothing widespread,” he said.
