COLUMBIA — About 100 demonstrators gathered Saturday morning in Columbia as part of a nationwide response to the fatal shooting of Renee Good by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent on Wednesday in Minneapolis.
The movement, known as "ICE Out for Good," was demonstrated from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of West Broadway and Stadium Boulevard in Columbia.
Another movement was planned at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Cole County Courthouse in Jefferson City.
Renee Good, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen, was a former resident of Kansas City, Missouri, who had recently moved to Minnesota, according to KSHB.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the victim tried to “weaponize her vehicle” to run over an officer near an ICE vehicle stuck on a snow-lined street before he opened fire.
However, according to CNN, state and local officials have strongly disputed the federal government's claim that shooting, which was captured on video, was done in self-defense.
According to CNN, tensions exploded amid the recent deployment of around 2,000 federal agents as part of the latest surge in the Trump administration’s nationwide immigration enforcement crackdown.
