• Columbia motorists with unpaid parking tickets could soon find their vehicles booted. The City of Columbia will begin using wheel immobilization devices on Monday. The devices prevent driving until all fines are paid.

• Boone County's Missouri Task Force 1 is on its way to Sikeston. The task force deployed this morning (Friday) to help with catastrophic flooding in southeast Missouri.

• Boone County commissioners approved adding a 15-year sunset provision to Proposition L at their meeting Thursday. The proposition calls for adding three-eighths-of a cent to the county’s current 1/8 cent law enforcement sales tax to fund a new county jail. It goes before voters on Nov. 3.

• A Columbia man is in jail facing felony charges after pointing a rifle during an argument at a local business Thursday. Boone County authorities charged William Smarr, 39, with unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action on Peachtree Drive. Smarr allegedly threatened an acquaintance and wrestled over the firearm.

• Veterans United Home Loans named Nicole Galloway as its chief financial officer. Galloway will manage financial operations and long-term planning for the company. She’s a former state auditor and Boone County treasurer.

• Flags flew at half staff Wednesday Boone County fire facilities. The tribute marked the two-year anniversary of the death of Assistant Chief Matthew Tobben. The 42-year-old firefighter died during a water rescue on Bear Creek.

• Missouri Realtors gathered in Columbia Wednesday to urging voters to reject Amendments 4 and 5 on the August ballot. The proposals would change rules for citizen initiative petitions and eliminate the state income tax.

• A man from Hartsburg man is in jail after allegedly trying to burn a camper Monday night with someone in it. A Boone County deputy responded to South First Street in Hartsburg and caught 55-year-old Michael Briggs pouring gasoline onto a nearby cabinet.

• A propane grill on a balcony sparked a fire at a south Columbia duplex Wednesday night. Columbia firefighters contained the blaze on Northhampton Dr. within six minutes.
