Spc. Wooster Rancy was sentenced Friday to life in prison without the possibility of parole, reduction in rank, total forfeiture of pay and allowances, as well as a dishonorable discharge from the Army following his conviction for the murder of Sgt. Sarah Roque, 23, on base at Fort Leonard Wood in 2024.

A Fort Leonard Wood military jury found Spc. Wooster Rancy guilty of the premeditated murder of Roque as well as obstructing justice, earlier this week.

Roque’s body was discovered in a dumpster on the base on Oct. 20, 2024. Rancy was placed in pretrial confinement shortly after, and two charges and three specifications against Rancy were preferred by the Army’s Office of Special Trial Counsel on Oct. 30, 2024, according to previous reporting.

Rancy will serve his prison sentence at the United States Disciplinary Barracks, Fort Leavenworth in Kansas, according to the news release.

“This sends a clear message that Army CID and our justice system will not waver in the pursuit of justice," said Special Agent in Charge John McCabe of Army CID’s Midcentral Field Office. "While no ruling can bring back Sgt. Sarah Roque or restore what was stolen from her loved ones, this sentencing brings accountability for this senseless act of violence.”
