The De Soto School District is seeking sponsors to advertise on two video scoreboards that will be installed at the high school over Christmas break.
Board of Education members approved the purchase of a scoreboard for the football field and a scoreboard for the gym in September.
Nicole M. Spruell, director of communications/digital learning/chief grant writer, said the district is currently reaching out to local businesses for opportunities to gain “prime visibility” by sponsoring the new scoreboards. These scoreboards will be featured prominently during all major school events, providing businesses with a powerful platform to showcase their brands while directly supporting students, she said.
Interested business owners and community members may attend a community meeting with NEVCO Sports at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at the De Soto Junior High School Cafeteria, when information about the advertising opportunities will be presented.
“During this meeting, we will outline the available sponsorship packages, and NEVCO Sports representatives will be present to answer questions and guide businesses through this fantastic opportunity,” she said.
Sponsorships are three-year commitments and include Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze options.
“We are pleased to share that our four Platinum Sponsorship slots have already been verbally committed to by local businesses; however, there are still opportunities available at the other sponsorship levels,” Spruell said.

The new scoreboards will replace outdated ones. In addition to displaying game scores, the scoreboards can display game highlights; advertisements and commercials; and full movies.
The district purchased the scoreboards from Nevco Sports LLC of Greenville, Ill., for a total of $374,805. The district used revenue from the $19 million bond issue voters in April to pay for half of the overall cost. The remaining cost will be deferred for two years and paid through marketing funds.
In two years, the marketing plan should generate well more than what the district owes on the scoreboards, and any revenue generated from the scoreboards would go to athletics, De Soto Superintendent Ron Farrow has said.
“Revenue will go into an activity account that will be used for field and stadium upkeep and maintenance, including any future scoreboard maintenance needs,” he said.
