Two flu-related deaths and 41 COVID-related deaths were reported to the Jefferson County Health Department during the 30-week respiratory season that began Oct. 1 and ended May 18.

From Oct. 1 to May 18, 3,498 flu cases and 5,605 COVID cases were reported. On the final week of reporting, there were 31 cases of COVID and 12 cases of flu, according to the Health Department.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone 6 months and older get this season’s COVID-19 vaccine to protect against the potentially serious outcomes of the illness. In February, the CDC recommended a second dosage of this season’s vaccine for adults 65 and older.

In addition, the CDC recommends a flu shot each season for anyone 6 months and older.
