The Crystal City Council has rezoned three more parcels of land for a proposed large-scale industrial project known around the county as “Redbird.”
The council voted unanimously Monday night, July 25, to rezone an 8.34-acre parcel, a 9.91-acre parcel and a .029-acre parcel, all owned by developer Larry Goodwin. Those parcels had been zoned either M-1 light industrial or C-2 general commercial and were rezoned to an M-2 industrial zoning district.
Jim Kennedy owns Festus Memorial Airport and much of the adjoining property associated with the Redbird project proposed by an unnamed developer, who has a nondisclosure agreement, according to both Crystal City Mayor Mike Osher and Jefferson County Executive Dennis Gannon.
Kennedy purportedly is in the process of selling the airport and surrounding property to the developer of the proposed industrial project.
Kennedy could not be reached for comment.
Crystal City staff said the latest rezoning allows the three Goodwin parcels to conform to surrounding properties.
“(The property) is due south of the airport,” Osher said. “This is another step to make the project more viable. The project is moving forward.”
The Jefferson County Council agreed on April 21 to commit up to $7.25 million to help pay for infrastructure costs for the Redbird project on the condition that the project is built.
