More than 160 readers responded to the Readers Choice poll, casting their ballots to pick the winner of the annual Leader Holiday Recipe Contest.
And, the runaway winner was Elizabeth Arway of Eureka for her Bourbon Eggnog Cookies, which already had been chosen the dessert category winner. The recipe garnered 84 votes for the overall winner in the contest.
Kelli Williams of Cedar Hill received 50 votes for her Kaysie’s Favorite Soup, and Robert Duncan of Dittmer captured 14 votes for his appetizer, Reconstructed Deviled Eggs.
The side dish category winner, Bacon Brussels Sprouts, submitted by Cindy Fox of Imperial, garnered eight votes, and the salad winner, Half Moon Bay Slaw, from Sherrie L. Crane of Barnhart, took the final six votes.
Each category winner received a $50 cash prize, and Arway will get an additional $50 for her overall win.
Thanks to everyone who participated in this year’s contest, either by entering recipes or voting in the poll. We hope to be back next year, stronger than ever and hold the usual Leader Holiday Dinner, which was called off this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
